Electric motor installation 1

"Hi Chri - I'm using the original 11x9 RH prop. I could have changed the pitch but it is simpler and cheaper to play with the sheave ratio. When I designed this system there was very little info or components available and I went with a 24v…"

Electric motor installation 1

"Hi Peter - what size prop and pitch are you running? Looks like the original 3 bladed from your blog photos. I am going to try her out in harbour on the 2.8:1 ratio settings as these are the recommended set up from Lynch. and if required will change…"

Electric motor installation 1

"Hi Chris - I've set mine as a 24v system rated about 2000rpm and had a 2:1 reduction but I'm changing that to approx 1:1 because I realise that I need a shaft rpm of about 1850rpm.That would match the shaft rpm produced by the original gas…"

Electric motor installation 1

"Hi Peter - Reduction is linked to the power curve of the motor i.e. rated rpm at around 2600 rpm - this set up produces 8.5kW (rated output) with peak of 16 kW and rated torque of 31.5 Nm. This is running at 48V. It is possible to run a direct shaft…"

"Nice installation Chris. Why did you decide on this reduction? What will be the shaft RPM and at what voltage are you opperating?"

Kerry Piper - work in progress continued

Trying to complete as much of the epoxy /veneer repair work before the colder weather arrives. Added below some pic's of the  the aft cabin repairs to the extensive dry rot. The rotten frame abaft the new aft bulkhead - shown in the previous blog - is replaced with a sawn mahogany section either side of the keelson flush shaped to the bilge and butt joined to the sound original frame section (above the w/l). The rot at the turn of the bilge (starboard) has new…

Here are a few pictures of Kerry Piper. The ones with the dark hull were taken in 1987 when I found her in Mechelen (Belgium) bringing her home to Antwerp for restoration. The pictures with the white hull were taken in 1990 after all the work. This is Antwerp harbour. Kerrypiper%201987%20-%201990.pdf

Chris, Uploading photos is really easy, and if need be I'll gladly tackle that for you. However, am I right in thinking that Sailing Today have copyright on those photos? If so, we must ask their permission to put them on the website. Even though we're not getting any commercial benefit - others might!

Hi Chris, Welcome aboard! Do you have a portrait of yourself that you can upload to your Profile on the new site? It would be great to replace some of those sinister hooded figures in the Members section! I hope to know more about A31 soon.

Best wishes, John
