A87 Methuselah update: on the move (again!)

A87 is now in the new shed at home and we are planing some serious progress on her in 2014!

After more than five years in a rented shed we were very keen to get A87 home and crack on with her restoration (is there an AOA prize for the longest restoration?). The cost of rebuilding the…

A87 Refit continues......

March 2012

Unbelievable! 6 months has slipped by and no significant progress has been made on Methuselah. However, indirectly things have been chugging along. In the meantime we have purchased an acre of (flat) land and last week bought a kit-set shed (which has to be dismantled and then re-erected). The shed is 15 metres long by 12 metres wide!! The height is…

Hi Murray,

Definitely an adventure, although we were talking last night that it seemed like another normal day in the islands so we must be acclimatized.

A146 ended up here with us, as opposed to us finding her here.  We moved here in January of 97 for me to take a job.  We were living in Boston and I had finished my masters in Naval Architecture at MIT and Michelle had finished her post Doc at Duke University in North Carolina.  We were married in April 96 and took the entire summer to go sailing on A146 from Boston to Bermuda then up to Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, the Ils de L'Madeleine and back to Boston.  Spent the fall looking for work and Michelle was teaching part time at Boston College.  Then I got the job offer at a boat builder in the Virgin Islands, we went down and checked it out , both liked the place so we decided to give it a try.  As there is a University it also meant that there was an opportunity for Michelle.  Clearly we stuck as Michelle now has tenure and was recently promoted, I left the boat builders and have my own yacht design firm, Walworth Yacht Designs, and we just finished building an off grid house with shop underneath designed  to be big enough to work on an Atalanta, shop is actually larger than the house as the first 3 meters of the upstairs is porch.

The boat on her trailer and our 109 Landy came down on a ship as we moved here in January 97.  Talked about waiting to move the boat until May and Michelle continuing to live on her up in Boston for the Spring semester but decided 6 months apart was a no go, she wan not making near enough money for that.  Plus we had Le Bateau Ivre here that much sooner and the car and trailer still had to get here.

Hi Murray, hope that we get to see you some time soon.  Great work on the old girl and hope that we can celebrate a launching in the near future.
